About Izzy…
Why do you feel it’s important to volunteer as a youth?
I believe volunteering as a young person can broaden your perspective on life and help you realize how fortunate they are for the experiences you are able to have and to be able to share and help others who do not have access to the same opportunities. Connecting as a community is something that should be done by people of all backgrounds, regardless of age, race, income, sexuality, etc. As humans, we all should be socializing with one another and celebrating our differences whilst sharing our knowledge.
How does volunteering benefit you?
Volunteering benefits me as an individual by allowing me to know that I have made such a positive difference in someone’s life. Being able to see the tutoree’s progression as time goes on is incredibly rewarding since I know that I have made such a positive impact on not their lives forever. It is an experience that allows both the tutored and the tutor grow as we can develop relationships with one another that typically would not occur.
What advice would you give someone who is thinking about volunteering as a tutor?
Volunteering as a tutor has truly made me learn a lot about myself, allowing me to grow and flourish by helping others. I have been able to connect with people I typically would not interact with, and brighten their day by taking time out of mine to help them grow as well. Being a tutor not only lets the person being tutored grow knowledge, but yourself as well, making you feel good about making a difference in someone’s life.
