Pandemic Praise

My daughters and I have had the great pleasure of working with Angela Hearns for the past few months. Although I had not heard of Rebound prior to 2020, it seems like when you need something most, it appears several times. This is the way Rebound has been for me (referred to me by my youngest daughter’s pediatrician, to assist with her anxiety). 

Angela and Rebound have been incredible to us as a family. Not only has she helped teach us about their emotions from a psychological and physiological perspective, she has provided sound strategies to help them through, as well as parenting guidance for us. 

Angela is an exceptional Child & Youth Worker, as well as a warm and caring person. It is a very difficult thing to develop a positive connection quickly over video call with children discussing sensitive topics, yet she did so quickly and easily.

Overcoming Anxiety

I used to let my anxiety control me and tell me what to do in most situations. These situations usually led to trouble. This was a problem that my support worker did not fix but help guide me through. She gave techniques to find the root of anxiety then got me to think rationally. Now I feel more in control of what my anxiety dictates what I should and shouldn’t do. I am a better person now because of it and I feel I’m finally friends with the right people, doing the right things.

A Mother’s Story

As a mother of two kids ages 8 and 9 I am always looking for programs that will get my kids out with other kids and that will keep them busy. I am a firm believer in the old saying "if the kids are busy they will stay out of trouble”. I found out about Rebound through their Self Esteem PA Day program. I have signed both my kids up as well as my niece. They have absolutely loved the program! They enjoyed meeting new friends, learning about themselves, and most of all the games they played! The space is wonderful and allows for the kids to spread out. They have a snack area if you feel you need it and tons of books and games. Since our first Self Esteem program we have been back twice! I have also been looking at the other great programs that they offer. We live in Port Hope but I am positive if we lived closer we would utilize their after school programs as well. In a day and age where kids are on screens and it is  all about who liked your post on Instagram I am grateful to have programs like this to teach my kids self respect, positive thinking, and a little courage.

From a Mentor

I personally referred a client to the OnTRAC program in the summer of 2015. This young man had not engaged particularly well with service providers in other programs, and found it quite difficult to form therapeutic trusting relationships with counsellors and therapists. I was encouraged to learn from the client, and from the OnTRAC staff that not only had he attended for all sessions, but that he arrived early to help with set-up, stayed late to help with clean up, and was an active and forthcoming participant in the program. This client later confided that he felt included, that his opinion was valuable, and that the staff really listened to him. I am very pleased that we have this valuable resource for our clients.

When I Was 15…

As a teenager I made poor choices for myself. Like normal teenager, I thought about myself and my friends, and didn’t put much care into my actions or their consequences. When I was 15, I was caught by the Police for being intoxicated in a public place. Thankfully, I was given the opportunity to participate in the Diversion Program at Rebound. This gave me the chance to see the negative effects my choices were having on me and my family, and turn myself around. I also started to choose better friends for myself. I am thankful that I didn’t have to go to court for such a foolish decision. Thanks to the Diversion Program, I avoided a criminal charge that would have affected my career path today. Rebound is a safe place for kids to explore their choices both good and bad. The staff at Rebound are friendly and supportive. They didn’t judge me for what I was doing rather, they respected me for who I was.

A Word of Gratitude

My son has been attending Rebound for several years for tutoring and extra help with homework with a dedicated student volunteer. Rebound offers so many beneficial services that contribute significantly to my son's social and academic success.

Words can’t express our gratitude for all the ways the staff and services have enabled my son to succeed, we’ve been so fortunate to have a French tutor each year!! The bond he makes with each devoted volunteer makes for such a successful learning experience. There have been times where my work schedule has interfered with tutoring sessions, but knowing how beneficial tutoring is, one staff member in particular was so eager to help that arrangements were made to ensure my son was still able to attend.

Making Smiles

My experience at Rebound was, really, way more than expected! They've really taken the time and patience to listen and help each client and send them on their way with a smile bigger than ever! And all thanks to Krystyne Gillespie, in my case, make the situation so much better for me and my life in general! I really couldn't thank her and everyone enough at the Rebound office who help, truly amazing people.

Thankful for Triple P

I was absolutely thrilled when I heard about the very first Triple P, Positive Parenting seminars. They had the tools that I needed to build on the parenting style that my husband and I have already adopted. I have three kids that are all five and under and was in need of finding ways to adequately parent my children in a way that would satisfy all the different ages and developmental stages. With the wonderful guidance of the incredible Rachel and the Triple P program I was able to find a way to resonate with all three children in regards to sibling rivalry and aggression mostly. It took a few weeks and it was not easy but it was well worth the time and effort that I put in as the results were incredible. My husband and I have both been very consistent with the teachings and due to that the results have stuck! It has been months and we're not dealing with any of the same issues as we were before. 

Thank you very much for all your time and effort is greatly appreciated and I hope that other people will get the opportunity that we have to nurture and support their little kiddos the way they deserve to be loved, nurtured, and supported!
