Thank You for Making Kilometers for Kids 2021 The Best Yet

Rebound Child & Youth Services (Rebound) is overwhelmed by the generosity that community members across Northumberland County have shown through their 7th annual Kilometers for Kids walk/run/hike (K4K), which was presented this year by Firing Time Pottery. During the week of October 17-23, nearly 90 community members walked, ran, and hiked in support of child and youth mental and emotional wellness. By meeting and surpassing the goal of raising $15,000, this event was Rebound’s most successful K4K walk/run/hike to date, engaging over 200 community members!

Representing a quarter of Rebound’s annual fundraising goal, more than $16,000 was raised through the immense generosity and support that the community has shown. This support will allow the Rebound team to continue to quickly scale up the programs and services that are needed by so many across Northumberland County.

“I am touched by the incredible generosity and support that our community has shown through Kilometers for Kids,” said Carol Beauchamp, Executive Director at Rebound. “We surpassed our fundraising goal, making this our most successful K4K fundraising and awareness event to date.  We are working together with our supportive community to ensure that no child or youth connecting with Rebound is left behind.”

Participants were walking for Rebound as far north as Nunavut and donations came from across Canada – as far east as Montreal and New Brunswick – and across the world from countries such as Australia! Rebound’s focus this year was to unite Northumberland County virtually, to walk, hike, or run together to benefit our individual mental and emotional wellness by exercising outdoors, while raising funds through Kilometers for Kids. Not only was the fundraising goal surpassed, but Rebound’s goal to come together to create a focus on the mental/emotional wellness of children and youth has been overwhelmingly embraced in this community.

Over $16,000 was raised, providing more than 144 sessions of client service and giving Rebound’s team the opportunity to serve 24 additional clients through one-to-one services. As children and youth in Northumberland County are experiencing heightened levels of anxiety and mental health challenges, Rebound’s services have become critically important.

Families have been under tremendous pressure over the last two years – to complement Rebound’s Triple P programming, Carol Beauchamp is working to adopt the Family Check Up program in collaboration with the Offord Centre for Child Studies, McMaster University and McMaster Children’s Hospital. This will be a significant investment in training, licensing, and credentials in order to provide this intensive family-based program.

Rebound was generously supported through a grant from Ontario Trillium Foundation, in order to develop its 2021-2025 strategic plan. Funds raised through Kilometers for Kids will propel this plan’s impact forward and will set their clients up for success, making sure that no one is left behind.

Rebound is extending its sincerest thanks to the 200 community members who engaged with K4K and to the generous sponsors and supporters who laid the foundation for this event to be one of the greatest. Thank you!
