Services Pivoting Virtually Once More

Rebound was quick to retrofit our office space with health and safety measures this past summer in accordance with local Health Unit recommendations in order to safely work and serve clients. This has included safety screens in all offices and open spaces, motion sensors to monitor door activity hands-free, reconfiguration of office space and furniture, as well as equipping staff with masks and face shields to allow face-to-face client interaction. However, in view of Ontario moving into grey ‘lockdown status’ near the end of December, Rebound’s services have pivoted back to virtual and telephone service until further notice. We await positive news from the Ontario government that will enable us to safely open our doors to clients once more.

All Rebound Programs and Services Continue to Serve Northumberland

The lockdown last March and April allowed Rebound’s staff the opportunity to revamp programming in order to offer virtual service, and we continue to be here virtually to serve our clients through our full range of programs and services. These include our Youth Walk-In Counselling Clinic, building group programs, Triple P parenting seminars and discussion groups, tutoring and guitar lessons, diversion programming, trusteeship programming in partnership with Northumberland County, and our CUIP program. In fact, during 2020 we learned that the addition of phone and video sessions provided a comfortable way for many young people to express their thoughts and feelings. Rebound will continue to offer these modalities of service to support young people and their families well into the future.

The current shutdown will not affect our ability to provide support to those who need it. Please call our main line at (905) 372-0007 or email rebound@rcys.ca to find out how we are working and what programs might fit for you, a family member, or someone you support.

Clients Served Continues to Rise

2020 saw a steady increase in our clients served this past year, as mental health challenges for children and youth continue to be present in this most challenging of years. Rebound provided support through our most intensive services for more clients than in previous years, pointing to an increase in mental health needs among young people. Young people and their families sought support for challenges such as school-related anxiety, sadness, self-injury, and relationship issues. In response to this demand, Rebound has expanded its mental health supportive service team to be as timely and responsive as possible, offering both scheduled counselling appointments and immediate walk-in service for high acuity needs at the Youth Walk-In Counselling Clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In 2020, 158 young people accessed a walk-in counselling session through Rebound’s services, receiving timely support to help them manage the challenges they wished to address. Our counsellors support children and youth, but also the families they are a part of. Says one caregiver, “I think your program plays a huge part in bringing families together and healing families and I think that it is an invaluable service.”

Fall Virtual Group Programs Update

Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, interest in Rebound’s group programming exploded this fall. Our CHOICES and On-TRAC group programs were delivered virtually through Smart Boards in schools across Northumberland County for the very first time, allowing us to work with students in a new, innovative and engaging way.

This fall, we also successfully piloted a brand new, evidence-based Anxiety Support Program virtually for children 8-11 and youth 12-15. Reach out to Rebound if you are interested in joining our group programs or Rebound coming virtually to your school.

Through a youth initiative grant, Rebound and along with two volunteers, Emily and Laura have been running a Virtual Drama Club over the fall. The Drama Club is providing opportunity for young people from the New Canadians Centre to have fun rehearsing and performing in a play, learning about the history of theatre and performing arts, and expressing themselves in a supportive environment with caring volunteers and their peers.

Rural Outreach Clinic Taking Shape

As one of the collaborative partners of the OHT-Northumberland (OHT-N) is excited to announce that the Rural Outreach Clinic in Cramahe County is set to become a reality. Construction is well underway at 34 Victoria Street in Colborne, with an anticipated opening at the end of February 2021. The clinic's aim is to help reduce barriers to care for those within rural communities, and it is a product of the OHT-N's year-one focus. Services will be introduced based on the needs of residents, service provider availability, as well as other operational factors. The OHT-N is thrilled to be providing an accessible outreach clinic and we will continue to keep you updated as these exciting developments continue.

Rebound’s Fundraising Update

trevor flint.jpg

We are oh, so close to our fundraising goal this fiscal year of $65,760 after a very successful Giving Tuesday campaign in November. Thank you to W.D. Harris Excavating, who matched Giving Tuesday donations dollar-to-dollar up to $2000. We are so grateful! Just before Christmas, we were also blessed with a $7,000 donation from Trevor Flint of Top Line Authentics. Trevor is a long-time supporter of Rebound who has outdone himself once again. Thank you, Trevor!

We are just $10,446 short on our fundraising goals for this fiscal year, which will allow us to continue offering our quality individual and group programming, as well as innovate our programming to reflect the changing needs of our clients and the times we are living in. The New Year brings new opportunities including our upcoming Valentine’s Day campaign and our monthly giving program. But don’t wait for a campaign to donate!

Donor Spotlight: Part Time CFO Services

Rebound has been so fortunate to be recognized by Part Time CFO Services, who has chosen our organization as one to continually support through their Community Giving Program. Part Time CFO Services is an established local company providing support to businesses big and small in order to improve their financial health and sustainability. Just this year alone, the program provided Rebound with a donation of $2,000, but that’s not all! Through an additional initiative designed for employees to recognize an organization of their choosing, Rebound was chosen to receive an additional $1,000. We are humbled by your generosity and vow to continue to do the important work that earned the respect of your organization. Thank you Part Time CFO Services!

Rebound is heartbroken to say goodbye to Michele Leggette, who has been with the organization for over eight years and in that time has filled a variety of essential roles for this organization. Past clients and community partners will remember that Michele started her time with Rebound as the READbound Tutoring and Volunteer Coordinator, and moved on to fill the positions of On-TRAC Case Manager, Mental Health Supportive Service Case Worker, Triple P Network Coordinator and Facilitator and FASD Leadership Team Member and Support Group Facilitator. We are so fortunate that Michele will continue to be close by, after being seconded by the OHT-N to act as the Rural Outreach Clinic Coordinator for the new clinic opening in 2021 in Colborne. Thank you for all of your hard work Michele, and best of luck in your new role.
